Event photography - Family day organised by Seachange Arts

Time flies by so quick. It's been two weeks sans a new entry to my blog. There's a lot happening at the moment, as I'm searching for second shooting opportunities. But I'm also shooting whatever I can and whatever inspires me so I have a big folder of photographs I need to look at and work on.

Today I'm going to blog about a recent event I covered for Seachange Arts a while back. Seachange are keen to organize family oriented multicultural and artistic activities so I went along shooting their Family Day event at St George's Park in Great Yarmouth.

It's always very interesting to photograph events as you need to be best portraying the sense of the event in work you present to the client. I achieved this aim as Seachange liked the set and purchased the photographs, which I was really pleased about.

The Interpreters' gig

I'm having a week off and will be mostly away from the pc during this time, so I thought it best to put up something before I abandon the pc to take more pics and chill out :)

Hence I'm leaving you with the second set of gig photos from last Saturday. This was from a great band called The Interpreters. I'm so impressed with their music. They managed to achieve a great buildup to arouse the sleepers within the crowd and I'm just sorry that the promo cd I bought after the session only contained two tunes :( Can we have an album guys? :)

More gig photography... The Future of Music

Is Antonella turning into a band photographer? That is the question? :)

I am certainly enjoying the experience, whilst capturing images that reflect the mood and fill my portfolio.

I photographed an up and coming Norwich band The Future of Music during the Summer Modness gig that followed the scooter gathering I blogged about recently.

Daniel Buckland and William Croft aka The Future of Music, describe themselves as two guys with a guitar having a laugh. From the way they performed Saturday night it was clear how much they enjoyed the gig and their cheeky performance affected the audience, who was grinning and tapping their feet.

I certainly felt like tapping my feet as I read William's thoughts about the set, which he posted via email....

"much love and gratitude coming your way for the awesome pics of saturday night! keep up the marvellous work xxx"

Well... I might as well introduce William and Daniel now...

The next one is one of my faves from this set. This was shot between sets of speakers and produced a lovely vertical vignette... the two other togs that were present did visit that same spot to try to understand what I had been up to, but probably didn't notice what I was looking into and moved away :)

I finish this posting with an image from the floor, The Interpreters (fantastic band who's photos I'll be blogging about next) enthusiastically clapping at the end of The Future of Music's gig.

scooter mod gathering

A bleary eyed start to the Sunday for me... I must have gone to sleep at 2am... full of thoughts from last night gig which failed to disappear this morning...

I must post up some photos I took at the Scooterboy gathering last evening at the Norwich Arts Centre. Pretty happy with the work though really disappointed that another tog was called in to take the group pics. I therefore had to content myself with the detail shots and candid stuff, which to me is preferable anyway, as I like to work in stealth mode.... It is good to take advantage of situations, however difficult they may seem and I am happy with last nights' photographic output.

anyway... let me have your comments about this set, which I will hopefully load on to the appropriate scooter forum once I have been given access to post...

Need to get back to post processing some more from last nights' gig now... I may have a cracker or two in the set ;)

shoot with Norfolk band 'in Rapture'

I've been meaning to blog about this shoot but I've been busy and other things have taken over...

Met up with the band a couple of weeks ago, during a gig in Thorpe Market at the Suffield Arms. In Rapture formed late in '08 and are a covers band with a busy list of bookings.

Having not met the guys before and having arrived a few minutes late with the band belting out tunes I was largely left to do the shooting with only a brief chat to sign model release papers.

The main challenge for the evening was the stage, a mega sized double container that was placed on a trailer on the far side of the pub garden, with less depth than the 'stage' was wide.

It was near impossible to get decent group shots with this layout, and my only regret for the evening was not to have rallied them round for a nice take together.

My nifty fifty (50mm 1.4 G AF-S) lens made an excellent job of the light in the container, and together with some acrobatics (had to jump into and out of 'stage' to some amusement from the audience!) this led to work I was really happy with.
